At Tarmon National School, our outdoor spaces are an important part of our pupils’ education and wellbeing.

  • Outdoor Classroom: We utilise our school grounds and local environment for nature walks, science experiments, and outdoor lessons across many subjects. Our colourful outdoor seating allows us to bring the classroom outdoors..
  • Biodiversity: Pupils learn about plants, insects and local wildlife through hands-on activities like planting, our bug hotel and sustaining our local habitats.
  • Gardening: Our school garden gives children the chance to grow flowers, vegetables and herbs, learning about sustainability and healthy eating. Every class is assigned a plot in our polytunnel to plant and maintain. Our Student Gardening Committee work hard to ensure our flowers and vegetables thrive.
  • Active Learning: Outdoor learning often links with P.E., movement breaks and wellbeing activities to keep bodies and minds healthy. Our running track provides us with a great space to walk and talk.
  • Exploration: Pupils enjoy outdoor investigations in subjects like maths and geography eg. measuring, mapping, maths trails and Maths Eyes.
  • Environmental Awareness: We encourage pupils to respect and care for the environment, helping them to understand the importance of sustainability and looking after our planet. Our newest Green Flag marks the work carried out in each class on the themes of Global Citizenship, Litter and Waste.
